The Basics

We want everyone to feel comfortable and confident at work, while maintaining a smart and professional image. This policy sets out the basic expectations for dress and appearance — including for video calls, religious or cultural dress, and any roles requiring uniforms or safety gear.

What You Need to Do

  • Be clean, well-groomed, and presentable — whether in the workplace, remotely, or out on business.
  • If you're in uniform, wear it properly and look after it. Let your manager know if it’s damaged or missing.
  • Dress appropriately for your role — e.g. no offensive slogans, revealing clothing, or untidy appearance.
  • You can wear religious or cultural dress unless it poses a health or safety risk.
  • If you're unsure or need adjustments (e.g. due to health, disability, or menopause), speak to your manager.

FAQs

Q: What if I’m working from home?
A: You still need to look presentable on video calls, especially when meeting clients or customers.

Q: Can I wear religious clothing?
A: Yes — unless it causes a health or safety concern. Speak to your manager if you’re not sure.

Q: Do I have to wear formal business clothes?
A: It depends on your role and your company’s dress code. If you're in uniform, wear it neatly. If you're allowed to dress casually, keep it tidy and appropriate.
